v. & n. --v.tr. 1 examine or re-examine and improve or amend (esp. written or printed matter). 2 consider and alter (an opinion etc.). 3 (also absol.) Brit. read again (work learnt or done) to improve one's knowledge, esp. for an examination. --n. Printing a proof-sheet including corrections made in an earlier proof.
